We are living in a challenging economic environment where securing corporate sponsorships for community programs is becoming more and more difficult.
For this reason Gripworks Inc. has developed a very unique scholarship program for the Modern Batik Art Workshop Program; where there is no need of corporate sponsorships nor requires private donations.
How It Works
High school art teachers that teach in disadvantaged neighbourhoods identify talented art students who have the ability and desire to obtain a post-secondary education.
David Kibuuka (artistic director) reviews their portfolio and if accepted, invites the student to participate in the workshop in their area.
There is no cost to the student for the training or for their art supplies.
As well as training in the Modern Batik Art techniques, the student will receive a general overview of the art business, which will include frame selection, portfolio presentation, accounting, copyright law, marketing, publishing and packaging.
The student will be trained to the point of commercial viability where two things will happen. Firstly, they will be trained to go back into their community and empower other youths in summer workshop programs. For this they will be paid. This will help offset some of their expenses while they are attending high school and university. Secondly, their works of art will be developed by Gripworks’ production department into limited and open editions, calendars, generic greeting cards etc. for sale to the general public.
Proceeds of the sale of these products will go into a general fund which will help pay for their post-secondary education of their choice.
For the duration of the students training and education, Gripworks retains exclusive rights to their artwork for the purpose of creating products to sell. On the day of the student’s graduation, Gripworks will relinquish its exclusivity back to the student.
Corporate Partner
Gripworks Inc.will develop a program at no charge for the corporate partner where appropriate products would be made available to their customer base.
Benefits for corporate partner; corporate branding, customer service concerns are handled by Gripworks, there is no charge for promotional material, no shipping charges, and no charge for the public relations campaign surrounding any initiative. All this will generate huge positive PR within the communities where the program is featured.
